More of Williamsburg - then on to Jamestown

Tuesday, May 3, 2011

Today was another great day for Mom and Dad and me!  I got to go back to the Pet Resort to play all day with all my new friends.  Boy, was I pooped when they picked me up!  I no sooner got in the truck and I was down for a nap all the way home!

Mom and Dad said they had a good time too.  They went back to Williamsburg to finish seeing what they missed yesterday.  Mom said the best part was going to the gun smith.  They actually made gun barrels from a flat piece of iron; then they pound it round!  It was very interesting.

Then, Mom and Dad went over to Jamestown.  It was really different from Williamsburg.  They are still excavating the site and finding new artifacts.  Mom and Dad went into the church and you can see the foundation through glass (in the floor) around the edge of the building.  There were white square stones in the floor and someone asked what they were - the guide said said that they were where prominent people of the settlement were buried!  The closer to the alter the more important you were.

Anyway here are the pictures for the last two days!

Williamsburg:

Capitol Building

Governor's Palace

Some people had carriages

Spinning thread for the weaver

Silversmith making a small bowl

Community Garden

Ox drawn cart

Making a gun barrel the old fashioned way!  It takes 100
hours to make a barrel!

Jamestown:

A model of the Jamestown fort - the tall building to the
right is the church

The Monument at Jamestown

A statue of Pocahontas

The Church at the settlement - inside
were two bronze plaques with the
Ten Commandments
on them - really cool!

Mom took many more pictures, of course, but these were the ones we decided to upload (taking a very long time).  When we got back to camp, Dad told Mom that he thought we should have a day of rest before moving on and Mom and I agreed IMMEDIATELY.

So, tomorrow we aren't going anywhere and we aren't doing anything!
