Shiprock, NM to Telluride, CO - Such Diversity

Time to catch you all up on the last few days:

Today we woke to partly cloudy/rainy weather.  It's still cool, so I like to cuddle with Dad in the mornings until he is ready to get up and take me for a walk.  He always makes me wait for him to have a few sips of coffee first tho.  Anyway, today we went to a place called Shiprock.  We went there after Mom and Dad did some shopping for Navajo stuff - Dad bought a Kachnina (not sure about that spelling - this is a small decorated carving and they all have a different meaning) and Mom bought some small sand paintings - they didn't have any dog toys I guess....anyway, Shiprock was really cool.  We crossed into New Mexico to get closer to it.  We have been seeing it for days because it is soooo tall.  I rises over 7,000 feet and from a distance, it looks like a ship in the desert.  It really looked spooky when the rain storms came in and surrounded it.

Shiprock, NM!

After we went there, we went to a place that showed the history of the weavings that the Navajo do.  They use wool from sheep of different colors, so their weavings are all in browns, black, greys and off white colors.  Then, they combine the colors when they spin the wool to make different shades.  Mom said it was really interesting.  Oh, and sometimes they use raw cotton too.

UGH!  M, H and L day.  That means Maintenance, Housework and Laundry - not too much fun!  Mom did Laundry and cleaned our "house", and Dad did a little maintenance on the "house" and truck.  I also helped Dad clean up the truck.

What a pretty day!  When we woke up today, the sun was shining and it was warming up really nice.  Mom woke up really early and made home made banana bread for Dad and me.  But, Dad doesn't seem to want to share too much!  Anyway, we got in the truck and Dad said he was going to take Mom and me on a nice Sunday drive (4 hours max - he said).  We headed North to a town called Delores then on to Telluride, CO - there is a ski resort there.  It was very pretty and it had snowed some - they are having snow warnings in Colorado yesterday and today!  We had lunch in Telluride and Dad got a map (Mom should have never let Dad get that map!) and off we went again!  Instead of turning around, Dad found ANOTHER way to get home - the LONG way!  We went North a little further then turned West and went to Ridgeway, down to Silverton, then to Durango and FINALLY back to camp!  Whew!  Mom took a lot of pictures, and Dad and I got out of the car on a summit that was over 11,000 feet high, and played in the SNOW for a very FEW minutes!  We also saw some Yaks - funny looking animals - they have VERY long fur - I guess it keeps them warm when it snows!  Here are some of the pictures Mom took:

Here I'm checking out out the snow!
Not bad, but could use some salt...

Snow in the mountains!

Up on the summit - buurrrr!
Dad said that this should be the last of the snow we see this year!  So, in the last couple of days we went to the desert at Shiprock, NM then to the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  I think Mom would like to see more of the Rockys, but not all in ONE day!  Our little 4 hour outing took almost 9 hours!  Mom said she has TB - tired butt!  Oh well!  It sure was beautiful tho and she got a lot of very pretty pictures!  I wonder what she will do with all these pictures - over 1,800 so far?  Good thing Mom bought an external hard drive to store them!

I wonder what tomorrow will bring?...Until later...
